Hello, Red and Blue Group members!
As we discussed at Cello Group Thursday evening, and as emailed, here, last Wednesday, these are, once again, the Chamber Music Festival details for THIS weekend.
You can also look at the OSA website: oakvillesuzuki.org for information about this event, but today the site has been down for maintenance, regrettably. Hence this post for your information, just in case, and in detail:
WHAT AND WHEN
Both RED and BLUE cello groups will perform in the Oakville Suzuki Association’s Annual Chamber Music Festival, this Sunday, March 3rd at QEPCCC. Our 2 groups are entered in the 4PM class. This means that the music begins right at 4PM. YOU MUST ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 3:30 and we ask for all parents to help in setting up the kids in the waiting area and on the stage. Your child needs your assistance with his/her stand, strap, chair and MUSIC. He/she should carry the cello and bow.
WHERE- (some confusion about the exact room, please read carefully)
It had been my understanding that we would be in the room in which we have group class each week, but someone said they thought it was in the Rehearsal Hall, at QEPCCC. I assume there will be signs. The Rehearsal Hall is the room in which we had last May’s Spring Cello Concert. It is at the far end of the hall in which we rehearse each Thursday. So, please check there if no-one is in our regular room. DO NOT GIVE UP AND LEAVE! 🙂
Please wear black (dress or plain) pants and your BLUE or RED T-shirt from Michael’s! (under $5 in the shirt decorating aisle) The idea is PLAIN, MATCHING T-Shirts, not just any random red or blue shirt. The BLUE shirt is ROYAL blue. Dark shoes, plain style, preferably not sneakers. If you feel cold in just the T-shirt, layer it over a plain white shirt, blouse, long sleeved T-shirt or turtleneck.
WHEN TO ARRIVE
By 3:30 at the very latest!!!!!!! The RED group is performing at another venue immediately prior to this Festival (RED GROUP-see end of post for details on this event) so it would be very helpful if the BLUE parents could begin unpacking and setting up the kids in the designated warm-up area. Genevieve and I will arrive as soon as we can after our previous performance.
WHAT TO EXPECT
This is an adjudicated (“judged”) event, although there are no marks or winners and losers. Four groups (each group performing 2 to 4 pieces) play, one after the other, and at the end of the 4 group performances, the adjudicator will assess the performers, speaking to the musical groups and to the audience. YOU (and your cellist) ARE REQUIRED TO STAY until the conclusion of the class. Parents should plan to sit in the audience. CELL PHONES MUST BE TURNED OFF! It is important both to play and to listen to the performances of all participating groups, as well as to listen to what the adjudicator has to say to everyone. It is extremely poor etiquette to leave before the entire class is over. We ask for perfect attendance and full participation at only four cello performances during the year, and this is one of them. It has been on your calendar for this Sunday afternoon since last August. We should be done by about 5 or 5:15 PM.
WHAT TO BRING
Cello. Bow. Music Stand, particularly the low cello version stands. STRAP! Stool, if you use one. YOUR MUSIC, in your BLUE or RED music folder.
The presentation (matching shirts and folders) is part of the totality of the event.
Please make every effort to WEAR PROPER DRESS AND BRING YOUR COLOUR CO-ORDINATED CELLO FOLDER WITH YOUR MUSIC IN PERFORMANCE ORDER.
